A Maldon exhibition has helped raise more than £1,500 for charity.

Photographs of 60s and 70s pop stars such as The Rolling Stones, David Bowie and The Beatles were among the work of former Fleet Street photographer Bill Orchard, exhibited at Hayletts Gallery in High Street, Maldon, in May and June.

Money from photograph sales was donated to Helen Rollason Cancer Charity and the proceeds of a raffle run by gallery director Sally Patrick were also donated, with the winner, Richard Cooke, choosing a photo of John Lennon as his prize.

Mr Orchard, 72, who has lived in Southminster for 29 years, said: “I’m really pleased with the amount we raised and the response that I’ve had to the photos.

“There was a lot of interest from young people who weren’t even born when I took them.”

Angela Lodge, the charity’s head of fundraising, who accepted the cheque, thanked Mr Orchard and the gallery for their support.
