Dengie: Meeting being staged to discuss area's new bus services
Residents of the Dengie are being urged to attend a meeting to clear up any uncertainty surrounding new bus services in the area.
The Dengie Bus Users’ Group is staging the meeting at Burnham Town Council offices in Chapel Road from 1pm tomorrow.
It will provide the opportunity for residents to put questions to the operators awarded contracts by Essex County Council to provide services in the Dengie.
The new services, which begin on August 26, will save the council £117,000 a year and see Stephensons of Essex’s D1, D2, D4 and D6 services continue virtually unchanged.
First’s 31X service between Maldon and Burnham, and the Althorne shopper service, provided by Maldon Community Transport, will also continue.
The D5 service between Burnham and South Woodham Ferrers will be replaced with a new six-day-a-week on-demand service run by Arrow Taxis, serving the villages of Stow Maries, Althorne and North Fambridge.
But concerns have been raised about services for St Lawrence residents, whose historic problems accessing rail services and doctors’ surgeries have not been addressed.
