Tillingham: Dengie schoolchildren enjoy country festival
More than 250 enthusiastic school pupils defied torrid weather to take part in this year’s annual Country Dance Festival.
The festival, which involved youngsters from six Dengie primary schools - St Nicholas Primary School in Tillingham, St Cedd’s Primary School in Bradwell, Southminster Primary School, Latchingdon Primary School, St Mary’s Primary School in Burnham, and Burnham Primary School - took place at St Nicholas Primary School last Friday.
The pupils took part in a range of traditional country dances originating from England, Ireland and Scotland.
Year six children from St Nicholas Primary School also performed a maypole dance, while others performed a Maori stick dance.
Paula Hagan, headteacher at St Nicholas Primary School, said: “It was wonderful to see all these dances come together. The children have only practised these dances in their own schools and this is the first time they have put it all together. It was an amazing sight.”
