Maldon district: More Fords fall prey to catalytic converter thieves

Police are warning vehicle owners to be on their guard after the latest series of catalytic converter thefts.

Thieves stole a £500 catalytic converter from a Ford Ranger in Fullbridge, Maldon, at about 8.30pm on June 14, and another worth £1,250 from a Ford Ranger in Colchester Road, Great Totham, overnight between June 9 and 10.

Attempts were also made to steal catalytic converters from three vehicles in Heybridge overnight between June 15 and 16.

Insp Chris Kilgallen, of Maldon police, said: “We are having a steady number of them at the moment.

“It’s a force-wide trend.

“The typical vehicles being targeted are vehicles comparably high of the ground.

“The favoured targets seem to be Ford Rangers and Mercedes Sprinter vans.”

The owners of such vehicles have been warned to think carefully about where they park, particularly overnight, and also to consider having catalytic converter anti-theft devices installed.
