Maldon: Pensioner's purse stolen as she does her shopping Maldon: Pensioner's purse stolen as she does her shopping

A shocked elderly woman has condemned a thief who targeted her while she was shopping at a Maldon supermarket.

The 81-year-old, who asked not to be named, was shopping with her 65-year-old sister at the Wycke Hill Morrisons last Thursday morning when her purse was stolen from her handbag.

A bank card was later used to withdraw £300 from her bank account.

The woman, who lives in Chelmsford but regularly visits Maldon, said: “I got right to the checkout and when I went to get my purse out to pay it wasn’t there.

“My bag was zipped up and everything."

She added: “I think it’s terrible really when they pick on old people. It’s dreadful.

“I would rather give them the money if they need it that much.”

I assume that Morrisons have CCTV in their store so I presume that the scumbag who committed this dreadful crime will be quickly identified and dealt with appropriately.

I hope that the victim is OK.
