Maldon district: Teachers consider strike action Maldon district: Teachers consider strike action

Teachers across the Maldon district could join others around the country in co-ordinated strike action this autumn.

The profession’s two largest unions, the National Union of Teachers and the NASUWT agreed to jointly fight Government “attacks” on teachers’ jobs, workloads and pay last Monday, May 28.

Maldon’s Plume headteacher David Stephenson said: “At this time of year, headteachers have no information regarding the likelihood of a September strike or the form it would take if it occurred.

“I am focussed on ensuring that Plume provides excellent experiences for our students, including the exciting community events involving Taxi Day and the Olympic torch event in the next few weeks.”

Burnham’s Ormiston Rivers Academy headteacher Joan Costello was unavailable to comment.
