Police are warning residents to think carefully about where they park after a spate of catalytic converter thefts.
In the week from April 23 to April 30 there were four such thefts in Maldon and one in Great Totham.
Sgt Perry Land said: “The one pattern of crime that I would say is an issue is thefts from motor vehicles, particularly catalytic converters, and also vehicle batteries.
“In the last week there’s been five catalytic converter thefts. Generally they’ve been overnight.
“This is a trend, but it’s not confined to this area.
“When people think of vehicle crime they think ‘Don’t leave your handbag on show. Don’t leave your sat nav on show’. Now you’ve got to think beyond that.
“It’s best if your vehicle’s garaged or parked in a well lit area.”
