Police hunt for group of teenagers after major blaze at industrial estate

Detectives are looking to trace a group of teenagers who were seen running away from an industrial estate in Maldon moments after a fire was started.

Police were contacted by the fire and rescue service shortly before 7pm on Saturday, following reports that a five diesel tankers were alight on West Station Yard off West Station Road.

Officers arrived and helped firefighters with shutting the surrounding roads, which were closed for two hours. However, a police cordon around the yard was kept in place until Sunday afternoon.

A police spokesman said: “We are examining CCTV which does show a boy running across the yard before and after the fire. We are obviously keen to identify him and would like parents and friends to help us with our inquiries.”

No-one was injured in the fire and there was no requirement for any properties to be evacuated. Police scenes of crimes officers have been liaising with firefighters to establish the circumstances surrounding the blaze.

Anyone with information in connection with this arson is urged to contact detectives at Chelmsford police station on 0300 333 4444.

Let's see the cctv in the next couple of days, rather than in three months then please.

The fact the Police have announced that cctv exists, means that the perpetrators will probably now be destroying incriminating evidence.
