LAND earmarked for a new power station at Bradwell has been put up for sale by EDF Energy.
The energy company, which only purchased the site in May, confirmed today that it is looking to sell because it wants to concentrate its resources on new power stations at Sizewell and Hinkley Point.
EDF Energy - which now incorporates British Energy - is now seeking a buyer who will be interested in developing the land as a new build power station.
Bradwell was named by the Government last month as one of the ten sites shortlisted to provide nuclear power by 2025.
Humphrey Cadoux-Hudson, EDF’s managing director for nuclear new build, said: “We believe the site at Bradwell which was named in the Government’s recently published draft nuclear national policy statement, has good potential for new build and will be attractive to potential developers of nuclear power plants.
“EDF Energy has long indicated that we would like to build our four European rressurised water reactors at Sizewell and Hinkley Point, with the first operational by the end of 2017. This sale process goes hand in hand with our plans and the industry’s wider objectives in seeking to help address the country’s long-term energy issues.”
