NOT even thieves could keep a smile off a mum and her autistic son’s faces after a random act of kindness triumphed over crime.
Debbie Pell’s eight-year-old son, Kai, was devastated after his Nintendo DS Lite was stolen during a trip to the fish and chip shop with his dad, Colin, last week.
But thanks to a generous stranger, there was a happy ending to the bad experience.
After Debbie, of Wood Road, Heybridge, put an advert on the website, Freecycle, explaining what had happened and appealing for anyone who had a DS for sale to get in touch, she received an e-mail from a man who told her to go to Maldon police station where there was a gift waiting for her son.
When she arrived she was given a brand new DS, which had been bought from Curry’s in Chelmsford, a letter from the man’s cat and cash to buy new games.
She said: “I couldn’t believe someone could be so kind, we’d like to say a big thank you to him."
