Youth sporting groups get cash boost

YOUTH sporting groups have received community grants from Maldon District Council - but grants specifically for adults were rejected.

The community services committee for Maldon District Council agreed to give the Maldon Sharks swim club £500 for pool hire, £600 to Maldon Swim and Lifesaving Club for school swimming courses, £200 to Blackwater Sailing Club to attract people to start sailing in a traditional dinghy and £200 to Tolleshunt Knights Eagles FC to buy equipment for the youth team.

But a request for £200 from Maldon Saints Reserves towards a football kit was refused because the grant was for people aged 18 to 34.
