CHILDREN and staff at a day care centre are celebrating the result of its first Ofsted inspection.

The overall effectiveness of services provided at Small Steps Day Care, which is based at Little Wycke Farm in Blind Lane, Mundon, have been classed as good in its first report.

It was the first childcare setting in the county to be inspected under the new early years curriculum which came into effect on September 1.

There are 16 children aged two to five-years-old on its roll.

Within the report it is said “children are provided with good quality care and make very positive progress in their learning in an interesting, safe and stimulating play environment.

“The manager and staff constantly strive to improve the experiences of the children.”

To improve the overall provision further, inspector Patricia Mary Champion advised the encouragement of “reflective practice, self-evaluation and informed discussion” in order to identify the centre’s strengths and priorities for development which will then improve the quality of its services.

Setting up a sickness policy was also recommended.

Sarah Roe, manager, said: “We have been open for almost a year, it has been a lot of hard work but I’m very pleased and proud of the inspection outcome.

“I would like to thank all the parents who have supported us from the start and to my team who are as equally as dedicated as I am in improving early years standards.”
