THERE will be a street party in Maldon this Sunday to celebrate the royal wedding.

Mrs Salisbury’s Famous Tea Rooms has taken all of Bright’s Path in the High Street to host more than 100 members of the public for afternoon tea.

The celebration will take place on Sunday, May 20 and gates open at 12.30pm with the event starting at 1pm.

Owner Mark Salisbury said: “We wanted to do something special for it.

“The last time I went to a street party was 1977.

“It’s just not done anymore which is a shame.

“There’s going to be bunting, afternoon tea, a big long table, Union Jack flags all around.”

“Because we own the whole street, we can really do something special and have a fun day.”

There has also been a live singer booked in for the event.

The afternoon tea has pies, cakes and an outdoor bar that will serve drinks.

Tickets for the Royal Wedding Street Party are £20 for adults and £10 for children under 12.

The price includes unlimited tea and cloudy lemonade.
