I WONDER if Maldon Standard readers remember when Theresa May told a nurse who hadn’t had a pay rise for eight years that there was no magic money tree.

Strangely and miraculously she has found £50m growing on its mythical branches to fund grammar schools.

Does anyone ever wonder why, when there is no money for the NHS, social care, education and essential public services, the Conservatives can always find money to spend on furthering their own political aims.

So, while grammar schools get extra money, at the same time headteachers in comprehensive and primary schools are having to ration supplies or ask parents to crowdfund for the essentials from paper and pens to books and toilet paper because they are so short of funds due to cuts to education cuts.

At the same time our health service is failing and staff are being stretched to breaking point. But we are told there is no money.
