Maldon Primary School are inviting former pupils back to celebrate a lost legacy.

The tea party and presentation aims to reunite pupils that attended in 1949 when the famous ‘Apple Book’ was sent to Australia.

The Standard reported a few years ago that, after the Second World War, when fresh food supplies were low, the Maldon district community in Australia sent three tonnes of fresh apples to the Essex town’s primary schools, from 1945.

As a thank you, seven Maldon primary schools sent a large book to the community in 1949, called the Apple Book.

This was organised by the then head teacher Mr Mudd and included pupil letters, art work and photos of the children.

In 2014, a group from Maldon, Essex, visiting Australia, found the Apple Book.

Back in the UK, began contacting former pupils to help match photographs to their correct names.

This information was sent back to Australia and the Apple Book was amended.

The Maldon Museum in Victoria, Australia have recently sent a facsimile of the updated Apple Book back to the UK.

It will be presented to the chairman of the Maldon Museum in the Park, Mr Peter Stilts, together with his wife and Mayor of Maldon, Jeanette Stilts.

The event takes place on Tuesday, May 8 from 2pm to 4pm at Langford Village Hall and entry is free.
