BUSINESSES are invited to a free event in Burnham next week on data protection regulation and how it will affect them.

The Burnham Chamber of Commerce will hold its General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) event on Tuesday next week at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club.

The event will allow businesses of all sizes to find out more about the General Data Protection Regulation that comes into force on May 25 and how this will affect the way businesses can make contact with clients in the future.

Ian Phillipson, GDPR Principal Adviser from Maldon District Council will be presenting on how the new regulation differs from the Data Protection Act (DPA) 1998, when it is legally acceptable to process data, privacy notices and keeping/obtaining consent as well as what businesses need to do and how to get help to remain legally compliant.

Teresa Schrier, Managing Director, of Premier Screening will also be talking about her business, specialising in Pre-Employment Vetting and Screening, plus there will be an exhibition of local businesses and the opportunity to network.

Adele Bovingdon, chairman of the chamber, said: “This event is an excellent opportunity to find out how the new General Data Protection Regulation will change the way we communicate with current and future clients and what we need to do to ensure we continue to remain legally compliant once it comes into force on May 25.”
