BURNHAM’S own Chamber of Commerce continues to grow in strength as a new chairman has been appointed.

The third event in the chamber’s relaunch in April was held on September 13, and focussed on funding for businesses.

It included an exhibition of funding organisations and guest speeches from Lisa Ricketts from LOCASE and Pete Robinson from Supreme Driver Training Ltd talking about free Eco Driver Training for Businesses.

The event was open to members and non-members alike.

Adele Bovingdon, the new chairman, said: “With more than 60 attendees it was another very successful event with a number of people commenting on what a “buzz” the night had, including Annie Reid the Commodore at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club and member of the Burnham-on-Crouch Chamber of Commerce.

“We also had further attendees join the Chamber of Commerce on or after the event and we would encourage other businesses to become members so that they can start enjoying the benefits.”

Henry Bass, Chairman of Maldon District Council, said: “This event was an excellent opportunity, to find out more about the extensive range of funding currently available to businesses in the district, including ways of becoming more eco-friendly. “Joining the chamber is also an excellent way of promoting your business and increasing your supply chain.”

The next event will be in January 2018, focusing on skills and particularly apprenticeships.

Prior to this, the chamber's focus will be on the upcoming visit from the “Small Business Saturday” tour bus.

It will be in Butt Lane Car Park, Maldon on November 16 between 10am and 2pm. Small Business Saturday is a national initiative which takes place every year on the first Saturday of December.

Its aim is to encourage the public to shop locally for goods and services.
