A DRAMA group will be bringing a dark and humorous twist on a fairy tale to the stage next week.

The Latchingdon Arts and Drama Society (LADS) are approaching their 60th year by bringing a big musical production to the stage this month with Stephen Sondheim's award winning musical Into The Woods.

This unique take on the fairy tale stories of the Brothers Grimm will take place from Tuesday August 22 to Saturday August 26 in the Tractor Shed in Latchingdon starting at 7.30pm.

The musical is tied together by a story involving a childless baker and his wife and their quest to begin a family (the original beginning of The Grimm Brothers' Rapunzel), their interaction with a witch who has placed a curse on them, and their interaction with other storybook characters during their journey.

The Latchingdon Arts and Drama Society was formed in late 1957. It was the dream of local Latchingdon Councillor, John Glassborow, who later became a President of the Society.

In February 1998, LADS moved to its new and current home at the Tractor Shed, located on Peter Jones' farm.

Tickets are £8 each on Tuesday and Wednesday nights and £10 each on all other nights and can be purchased from the Tourist Information Centre in Maldon, or reserved to collect at the door by emailing ladsdrama@gmail.com.
