FURTHER changes have been made to a neighbourhood masterplan following public feedback.

The Standard reported last week that Maldon District Council would be making a U-turn on The Maldon Central Area Masterplan by removing plans for a marketplace on Maldon’s Hythe Quay.

The market plans were on the front page of the plan, but feedback from the public consultation found residents would be unhappy with the designs to the quay.

At the council’s Planning and Licensing Committee meeting on Thursday, council members passed a majority vote to additionally scrap plans for a bridge over the River Chelmer.

Penny Channer, chairman of the committee, said “Due to concerns regarding the potential impact on river users, the committee agreed that the plan for a bridge across the River Chelmer be removed from the Masterplan.

“The committee resolved to agree the proposed amendments to the draft masterplan and granted approval for council officers to prepare a final draft to be considered by the Planning and Licensing Committee on September 14, prior to recommendation to full council for approval.”
