A MALDON Carnival Fun Fair is nothing to do with the Carnival, the event’s committee warns after posters advertising the event show up in Maldon The posters began cropping up around the town this week, promoting a fun fair in Maldon’s Promenade Park.

The adverts which contain the Maldon Carnival name at the top of the page, mention celebrating 100 years supporting the event.

However, the Maldon Carnival Committee say that the fun fair, scheduled to take place during carnival week and on carnival day, between July 26 and August 6, is not related to the carnival in any way.

The Maldon Carnival Committee Chairman, Rob Slight said: “These posters have been put up without our knowledge.

“We haven’t spoken to anyone from the fair so they are using our name to promote their event at the same time as the Carnival this year.

“We have not organised it and no one on our committee has given the organisers of this fun fair any permission to use the Maldon Carnival name.”

Mr Slight added: “The poster has now led to confusion in the town as people are contacting us with enquiries regarding the fair which we have no link to.

“Our volunteers have been working hard all year to put on events for the community during Carnival week and on carnival day.

“We are disappointed that the fair are riding on the back of our publicity and are concerned that people could be fooled into thinking that any of the money made from this fun fair will be going towards the Maldon Carnival, when actually the fun fair is a private business and nothing to do with us.”

All proceeds made from the official carnival events, organised and managed by the carnival committee, go straight back to the Maldon Carnival and help provide funds to keep the carnival running and put the event on every year.

The carnival have organised their own Party in the Plume event which will happen straight after the procession at the Lower Plume School Field.

The Big Sing will be uniting all the primary school children in Maldon at 4pm, with renditions of ‘Love My Life’ by Robbie Williams.

The party continues on the Plume with bouncy castles, Snakey Sue Encounter, craft stalls, facepainting, fitness tent, show cars, licensed bar, local Head Teachers soak, photobooth, food stalls, and great live music A spokesman for the fun fair said: “We have always put Maldon Carnival on the posters because it comes to Maldon at this time of year.

“This will be the 100th year it has come to the town at the same time as the carnival. They are not trying to say they are from the carnival, but the fair is run specifically to coincide with the carnival.”
