CHILDREN were taken to hospital after a crash near Woodham Mortimer.

The A414 (Maldon Road) was blocked in both directions at the junction with Lodge Road near Woodham Mortimer following a crash on Tuesday afternoon.

Essex Highways advised that there are long delays.

A spokesman for Essex Fire Service confirmed they had attended the incident but were not required.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman added: "We were called at 1.05pm on Tuesday to reports of a two vehicle collision on the A414 near Woodham Mortimer.

"We sent on ambulance officer and two ambulance crews to the scene.

"There were five patients involved that were assessed. We believe it was two children and three adults.

"All had suffered a variety of minor injuries. All were conscious and breathing and taken to Broomfield Hospital as a precaution."
