A CHARITY concert will take place in Burnham to raise money for specialist dementia nurses.

Dengie Rocks Against Dementia will be the second event of its kind and has been organised by Burnham action group, Sean [Support Essex Admiral Nurses].

The group are working with Dementia UK to try and bring Admiral nurses to the Maldon District and the rest of Essex.

They have previously held coffee mornings and sponsored walks to try and raise money to bring the care to the region.

Organiser Julia Mells, whose father, Michael, was diagnosed with dementia, said: “We want to support Dementia UK and the work they do in providing Admiral nurses to families whose relatives are suffering with dementia.

“When a person gets a diagnosis of dementia it is a devastating thing. “These nurses provide so much support to families, they really are priceless.

“The fact these nurses are available and trained to support families is vital. Where they have been commissioned they have helped to reduce the numbers of people being admitted to hospital.

“The nurses can alleviate some of the pressure on families, and in the long run save the NHS money.”

The Dengie Rocks Against Dementia event will see local bands and singers performing live, as well as a charity auction.

All the money raised will go into Dementia UK’s protected fund for Essex Admiral nurses.

The event will take place on Saturday, July 15, between 2pm and 8pm on Burnham Quay, outside Ye Olde White Harte hotel.
