AS was quite obvious to most people, the parking situation at the Princes Road offices and surgery will be even more difficult after the police have moved their staff and vehicles in.

At present the access road and car park spaces allocated for visitors are usually occupied throughout the day.

Maldon District Council’s director for community services suggested in last week’s paper there was adequate parking for all, but if found to be filled to capacity and visitors are unable to find a space they can always use one of the town’s main car parks, providing of course there are spaces available and not forgetting to pay a small fee for the privilege or use the bus service.

Then any visitor can take the scenic route for their appointment at either surgery or office at their leisure, hopefully the weather isn’t too inclement on the journey.

I am not sure how the elderly and infirm will take to that well-intended advice, but I am sure it will go a long way in displaying fairness and equality from Maldon District Council if they announce that all the car park places are open to visitors and employees alike.

Perhaps even introduce a system where a visitor with business along Princes Road can obtain a permit from reception for a maximum of two hours, and return it for the next visitor when they have concluded their business there.

Then his suggestion to residents to use public transport could be extended to everyone, and maybe he can also arrange for some notices to be erected outside the surgery informing visitors the quickest way to the nearest bus stop.
