BURNHAM’S annual 10km run will be taking place this weekend, bringing runners and spectators from across the county.

The hugely popular run will take place on Sunday, beginning at The Dengie Hundred Sports Centre in Millfields, where runners will set off up Station Road, turning East onto Marsh Road at St Mary the Virgin Church.

They will travel down Marsh Road out of town before turning south and crossing over Dengie farmlands, heading back into town from Wick Road, crossing over the quay before finishing back at the sports centre.

It is a mainly flat route with some tight turns and slight undulations.

This year, more than 200 runners have signed up for the event. At least 50 per cent of proceeds from each runner’s entry fee will be going towards The Dengie Project Trust, who provide a range of services to empower people to make choices, enabling them to reach optimum levels of health and fitness and to lead rich and fulfilling lives.

The first five male and female runners will receive a goody bag, as well as the medal presented to each runner.

The race is organised by the Rotary Club of Burnham-on-Crouch and Dengie Hundred, which is one of the 1800 clubs with more than 58,000 members throughout the UK.

The Burnham and Dengie branch have nearly 40 members drawn from all sectors of the professional and business community within the Dengie Hundred from decorators to dentists, builders to bankers and farmers to financial advisors.

The race is sponsored this year by Strutt & Parker, The Furniture Men, Burnham Town Council and Church & Hawes, with Essex and Suffolk Water supplying water bottles for the day.

The race begins at 10am on Sunday, with registration closing at 9.45am.

Club attached runners cost £14 and unattached cost £16 if booked in advance. Runners can sign up on the day for £20.
