A NEW exhibition at a museum in Maldon has been praised by the town mayor.

On Saturday, Maldon Museum in Promenade Park welcomed town mayor Richard Millar as it opened its doors for the 2017 season.

The mayor’s visit was to promote a new display entitled “Stones, Bones and Old Pots” in which major features include a fossilized mammoth tusk, a porpoise skeleton and a human skull, excavated in 1797 during the building of the Chelmer and Navigation Canal.

Mr Miller said: “It's a smashing new exhibition and the museum I’d very much recommend a visit.”

The Museum is open from 2pm to 5pm on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and from 11-5 on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Admission is £2 per adult and 50p for children, except for Bank Holidays when there is no charge, and during school holidays there is no charge for children under 15.
