LAST week’s letters page featured Pru Plumridge views regarding the failings of the currently elected governments policy of a fair and correct way to distribute benefits to those that need them.

Now when an author’s letter is printed they must acknowledge other people may have a different opinion, so after reading her last effort, she concluded, and I quote: “They tell us there is no alternative. It’s time to challenge this lie because there is”.

So Pru, if you are so sure of your convictions and knowledge, maybe it’s now time to share them with the rest of us rather than your usual invective letters of the unfairness of it all, but failing to offer a viable alternative in your previous letters, then it may help your cause if you informed us with a little more detail just how you would go about changing things for the better.

Other people have asked you before, where do you think the money is going to come from?

You also must be aware, it was one of your favoured prime ministers whose masterful idea to deregulate the banks and could arguably be said to have largely contributed to the financial situation we are still in to this day.

It would be nice to see just a small rise in the interest rate for my hard-earned savings for instance as not everybody can look forward to an indexed linked pension or want to rely on benefits all their life.

As I have written previously, most people don’t want to see anybody suffering or going short if they are genuinely entitled to be helped. But just by rubbishing the Conservatives attempts to balance the books, and simply implying to a lot of people that they only have to vote for the Labour party, and everything will be alright simply won’t do.
