RESIDENTS are invited along to one of the numerous events being organised by the Maldon Society during the summer period this year.

The Maldon Society was established in 1957 to enable the people of Maldon and the immediate area to take an active role in maintaining both the history and character of the town.

It is this month inviting people along to the Burnham and District Museum, where Margaret Smith gave a very interesting account of the birth of the museum in 1971 through to today’s collections.

The museum, like Maldon’s Museum in the Park, has changed its venue several times. There are regular fossil walks organised by museum staff which the public can enjoy.

The society will also be holding its annual general meeting on Thursday May 4 next week, at the United Reformed Church on Market Hill.

The meeting will be followed by a very special talk by three speakers who will explain and show photographs of their personal involvement with the making of the Maldon Millennium Embroidery. Doors will open at 7.15.

The meeting on June 1 will see Bill Geller giving the history of ‘The Jersey’, a Frigate that Maldon built in 1652. This will be in the United Reformed Church Hall. Doors open at 7.15.
