A THERAPIST is setting out to help men suffering from depression in the Maldon district through free interactive workshops.

Jane Williams, who opened up Hypnotherapy Essex in Burnham in September, is reaching out to men who suffer from depression in the town and surrounding areas, and is asking for advice on appropriate venues and places to hold the meetings.

The workshops would allow men to talk openly and honestly with practical support, mind based therapy, with tips on diet, nutrition and exercise to help them to feel positive and see that they're never alone.

Jane, of Tillingham, said she is concerned about health service cut backs and the stigma surrounding depression in men, wanting to offer a free service to help people open up and discuss their problems.

She said: “It’s getting worrying in this day and age when the health services – particularly those surrounding the elderly, vulnerable and for mental health – are being cut back to the bone, it’s reached the stage where I want start something to actively help people.

“I want to set this up so that people can become part of a group that’s sensitive and interactive that allows men to open up about their problems rather than letting it boil inside them. As a trained sexual therapist I’m more than qualified to be able to work with people to help them deal with depression and other disorders.

“Lots of people often want to be the helper, always lending their help to others, but many often don’t accept the help themselves.”

Jane hopes to find suitable venues for the workshops and generate interest in the local public to either help run them or be treated by them. If it proves popular in the Burnham area, she hopes it can expand across Essex.

Jane added: “I want to make this a free service to anyone suffering in Burnham and the Dengie. If it’s successful and it expands across the county I would have to consider a small fee, but I want to make it as relaxed and positive as possible.

“If any other therapists or health providers would like to help or be a part of it that would also really help. No one should have to suffer in silence.”
