AN ARMED robber has admitted raiding a shop in Burnham High Street.

Justin Smith went into One Stop Stores at 6.10am on Wednesday, February 22.

The 44-year-old was carrying a purple kitchen knife and threatened staff.

Smith, of Dunkirk Road, fled with a quantity of alcohol and tobacco.

He also stole the cash from a charity box in the convenience store.

Smith appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court and changed his pleas.

He admitted one count or robbery committed against two members of staff who were working at the time.

He also admitted one count of possession of an offensive weapon.

Smith will be sentenced in six weeks back at the court after a pre-sentence report is completed by the probation service and psychiatric assessments are carried out.

He will remain in custody until then.
