A BURNHAM woman so fed up with the sight of dog mess littering the town is to arm herself with spray paint to highlight the problem.

Burnham town councillor Vanessa Bell has be - come fed up of constant sightings of dog poo on the streets she is taking co-ordinated action to help tackle it.

The town council will be purchasing orange spray paint to be used to highlight the various dog messes on pavements and roads in Burnham, while new posters will be designed by children and then displayed.

Ms Bell, elected to the council in December, said she has grown tired of the constant sightings and complaints from residents.

She said: “This campaign wasn’t something I had in mind when I was running for councillor, it came about from the many, many complaints over social media about dog mess littering the whole town.

“I hate the sight of it also, and until now there hasn’t been a co-ordinated effort to try and stamp it out, nothing seems to have worked so far.

“We do have notices of fines being dished out for people, but that doesn’t seem to stop anyone from leaving it.”

At a town council meeting last week, Mrs Bell reported she had received funds for the orange spray paint.

She said she was also liaising with representa - tives of Ormiston Rivers Academy to get some of the children to design posters to sway people from leaving their dogs’ mess on the street in the future.

Vanessa added: “We’re just awaiting confirma - tion of the funds to get the paint, and I’m waiting to hear back from Ormiston Rivers, but I really want to encourage children to get involved, as when the message comes from younger people it seems to sink in more.

“I’m reaching out to various primary schools in Burnham to encourage some of their pupils to get involved as well.

“This is the first united push against dog mess in the town, hopefully it can improve things.”
