Here's a round-up of recent cases heard at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court.

  • A MAN has been handed three penalty points after running a red light.

Richard Wade, 49, of Mermaid Way, Maldon, admitted failing to stop for the red light on Parkway in Chelmsford on June 21.

Wade was caught travelling through the light 5.6 seconds after it changed at 28mph.

At Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on February 2 he was given three penalty points, fined £69 and ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge and £90 costs.

  • A MAN has been banned from driving for 20 months after admitting drink driving.

Martin Baker, 36, of Granary Close, Latchingdon, was found to have 176 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood when he was stopped on Burnham Road in Latchingdon on November 12.

The legal limit is 80.

Baker also admitted driving without insurance on the same date.

At Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on February 6 he was banned from driving for 20 months, fined £393 and ordered to pay a £39 victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs.

  • A MALDON man has been ordered to complete 40 hours unpaid work after admitting drug possession.

Ronnie Rowe, 21, of Fambridge Road, Maldon was found to have 1.6 grams of cocaine and 81.6 grams of cannabis when he was stopped in Burnham on October 29.

At Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on February 7 he was ordered to complete 40 hours unpaid work, and pay an £85 victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs.

The drugs have been forfeited and will be destroyed.

  • A MAN has been given three penalty points and fined £70 after being caught speeding.

Luke Quinn, 28, of Wenlock Way, Maldon, was caught travelling at 37mph on Maldon Road in Danbury, on July 2.

The speed limit is 30mph.

At Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on February 9 the case was proved and Quinn was handed three penalty points, fined £70 and ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge.

  • A SOUTHMINSTER man has been handed four penalty points and fined £440 after being caught speeding.

Kobad Bankwala, 60, of Lavender Drive, was caught travelling at 58mph on the A127 in Laindon on July 5.

The speed limit was 40mph.

The case was proved at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on February 9 where Bankwala was given four penalty points, fined £440 and ordered to pay a £44 victim surcharge and £90 costs.

  • A MAN has been disqualified from driving for 12 months after failing to identify a driver on two occasions.

Benjamin Walsham, 36, of Belvedere Place, Maldon, was charged with failing to give information on the identity of a driver alleged to have committed an offence on both May 12 and June 6.

At Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on December 21 both cases were proved and Walsham was sentenced at the same court on February 13.

Walsham was disqualified from driving for 12 months, fined a combined total of £1,320 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £66 and costs of £90.

  • A MAN has been handed three penalty points and fined £220 after running a red light.

Syed Termezi, 28, of Fambridge Road, Maldon, failed to stop at the light in Parkway, Chelmsford, on July 9. He was found to have travelled through the red light at 25mph 6.2 seconds after it had changed.

At Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on February 16 the case was proved and he was handed three penalty points, fined £220 and ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge and £90 costs.
