A GP has written and performed a second parody song highlighting the pressures of NHS funding in mid Essex.

Dr John Cormack, who works at Greenwood Surgery in South Woodham Ferrers, got more than 6,000 views online with his first hit The GP Blues.

Now the doctor, who hit the headlines when he changed his name by deed poll to John Cormack-the-Family-Doctor-who-works-for-the-NHS-for-free, has made a second song to make people aware of the current situation GPs are facing.

Titled Sweet Nuthin the two minute song features images of a bank manager, played by patient group chairman Ian Gillard, visiting Dr Cormack to spell out his financial situation.

The lyrics include: “Working day n night tryin to make ends meet. He say – come on boy just admit defeat. I’ve been working for two years, mmm for sweet nothing.”

Dr Cormack said: “Last financial year the practice lost over £4500 despite the fact that I worked 'for free' and we 'celebrated' with the song 'GP Blues.'

“In the most recent financial year we lost over double that despite the fact that I worked 'for free' all year, so we have 'celebrated' again with 'Sweet Nuthin'.

“People who work in the NHS will tell you that you either laugh or you cry.

“This is our attempt to make light of an appalling situation whereby Greenwood Surgery and its patients are discriminated against by the NHS.”

He added: “SWF is an extreme example of this state of affairs in that job-sharing identical twins living in the same house will be treated very differently by the NHS depending on which practice in the town they register with.”
