A COMMUNITY rowing club has been awarded a £10,000 grant.
Burnham-on-Crouch Coastal Rowing Club have been given the grant by Sport England to help fund their 12 month development training programme.
It is hoped the project will increase the number of people involved in the sport of rowing in Burnham.
The objectives of the project are to establish a youth section in the club, increase the number of people with disabilities taking part in rowing, increase the number of adults using the water for exercise and wellbeing, promote water safety, and succeed in the Harkers yard rowing series.
To ensure the project works, a second boat will be bought and club members will be sent on coaching courses.
Club member, Nicola Hastwell said: “Without this funding we would not be able to afford these things and the project would not be able to go ahead.
“We are not a profit making organisation so we rely on fundraising events and grants such as this.
“Our project includes a calendar full of events and training sessions such as adventure rows, first aid training, man over board training, social rows and race training. There is something for everyone, not just hardened race crews.”
