A BIG hearted fun day full of music graced Maldon with live performances raising more than a thousand pounds for charity in one day.

Maldon’s Big Hearted Fun Day was held at Maldon Town Hall, organised by The BIG Sing Community Choir, and raised money for the choir’s new charity “The BIG Sing SOUL”.

The charity arm of the choir aims to provide and deliver uplifting music to the people who cannot join the weekly rehearsals. Projects are already lined up this year in schools, hospitals, and with disabled groups.

This year’s fun day, which took place on Saturday, had treasure maps, lucky dips, a giant tombola, home-made cake stall, chocolate fountain, nail and face painting, disco, characatures and magic show, as well as lots of craft stalls and live singing from The BIG Sing and LITTLE Sing Choirs.

The BIG Sing have performed alongside some big names, including Ellie Goulding, Leah McFall (from BBC’s The Voice) Blake, London Community Gospel Choir, sung for Jamie Oliver and have toured with Leona Lewis.

Sandra Woodward, administrator and charity manager for The BIG Sing, said: "It was a fantastic day and we loved providing entertainment and seeing eveyone in the community getting together and enjoy the things we had put on, we held the fun day simultaneously with our choir in Kent on the same day, and through the two events we raised more than £2,400, with £1,250 being raised in Maldon.

"We were really pleased, it's a good sum of money that will go towards our new charity."
