A MUM has described the terrifying moment a driver smashed into two cars before driving off.

Rebecca Smith had hundreds of pounds worth of damage caused to her car when a driver pulled out onto Maldon Road, clipping another motorist before crashing into her car and driving off.

The mum-of-two believes the junction is one of Burnham’s most dangerous.

The car, which Mrs Smith described as a dark green Ford Fiesta, turned onto Maldon Road, clipping a car coming from the other direction.

It then smashed into Mrs Smith’s Volkswagen Passat, taking off a huge chunk of her car and cracking the headlight, forcing her to the side.

To Rebecca’s shock, she watched the driver pull away and head off into the distance without bothering to address the damage.

Rebecca, of Church Road, Burnham, said: “It was a huge shock and it happened really fast.

“I remember seeing the car coming in from the centre of Burnham onto Maldon Road, clipping another car before crashing into mine.

“After it happened I just sat there and watched the car drive off without even stopping to look at what damage had been done.

“There’s no way she couldn’t have noticed it, especially after hitting two cars.

“From what people nearby said, it seemed the damage done to the other car was all the way down the left hand side, even worse than mine.”

Rebecca, who also had her front window smashed by flying bricks from a car crashing into a wall last year, said the Church Road-Maldon Road junction often has collisions and accidents.

She added: “I’m pretty sure I live near the most dangerous junction in Burnham, certainly the one where the most happens.

“Often I hear people sounding their horns, clipping each other and bikers being knocked over.

“Neither of us were going that fast when the crash happened.

“It seemed like the driver just jumped the junction too quickly without stopping.

“The annoying thing is the fact they didn’t stop when they knew full well it had been their fault and damage was done. It’s just common decency.”

The incident took place just before 9am last Thursday after Mrs Smith had gone on the school run before heading out to work as a baker.

Mrs Smith reported the incident to the police through its new online service.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Essex Police on 101.
