A NEW family has stepped up to reopen Burnham’s bakery.

The bakery on Station Road is now run as a family business with Sue, Tom and Hayley Stubbings as co-owners. The bakery was run by Jimmy Beekie for more than 10 years, before being taken over by new owners in June this year.

Last month due to unknown circumstances the bakery closed and the new owners decided not to reopen.

The Stubbings family took over and have now opened for business.

They source local produce wherever possible including bread from Golden Platter at Mayland, meat from Maravac Meats in Burnham, including the infamous Burnham Bangers.

They look to provide freshly made to order food with the best quality produce, all at an affordable price.

Sue said: “We’re all from Burnham originally, and seeing that it was available it looked like a great opportunity for us to run something as a family, and a great challenge to branch out into something new.

“So far we’ve had some lovely feedback and all our customers seem very enthusiastic about us taking over and carrying the bakery on.”

The bakery sells fresh bread & cakes, filled rolls and sandwiches made to order, paninis, jacket potatoes, salad boxes, pies, pasties and sausage rolls all served hot or cold along side a well stocked hot and cold drink range.

They also offer a delivery service.

Sue said: “We often get lots of orders from contractual builders who are working on houses for their lunch, and more offices and other local businesses have been ringing in.

“I think people like the idea of having their food made fresh.”

Sue’s son Tom Stubbings said: “We decided to take on the bakery as we saw it as a new challenge and thought it would be a shame for Burnham to lose it.

"After taking the shop over it underwent a minor renovation to freshen it up and give it a new lease of life.

"We are very pleased with the response we have received so far and have had some really pleasing and positive comments."

He added: "We would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Jimmy Beekie and his wife Carol for all of their invaluable help, support and giving us the confidence to take it on. Believe us when we say we could not have done it without you."

The bakery is open from 7am to 2pm on Monday to Friday and 8am to noon on Saturdays.
