A SOUTHMINSTER manufacturing company celebrated their 60th anniversary by raising hundreds of pounds for a cancer charity.

Allen Brothers, a company that makes sailing equipment for the likes of Olympians, held an afternoon tea at its base in Southminster to mark their 60th year.

The event, held on Thursday, October 13, managed to raise £340.23, all of which was donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Liz Adams, Managing Director of Allen Brothers, explained why: "Like many people, cancer has touched the lives of our family and staff over the years and for that reason we decided to support Macmillan as we celebrate this milestone in the company's history.

"It was sixty years ago this month my a father and his brother received the first order for the business. I sill have the original letter.

"In that time we have built the business to employ 30 staff and supply performance sailing hardware to all levels of sailors around the world, from Olympic contenders to grass roots club competitors."

A spokesman for Allen Brothers said: "The day was a huge success and I am delighted to be able to tell you we raised £340.23 for Macmillan Cancer Support. A big thank you to all involved."
