ST MARY’S Primary School in Burnham is celebrating after receiving a “Good” rating in its latest Ofsted Report.

The news comes as a delight for the school on Marsh Road, as the previous inspection in March 2014 declared that the school was required to improve, otherwise it would have been placed into special measures.

The inspection, which took place in June this year, rated the school as “Good” in all assessment areas, including effectiveness of leadership, quality of teaching and learning, personal development and early years’ provisions.

The report said: “The vast majority of teaching in the school is good and so pupils make good progress across the school.

“Pupils are engaged effectively and make good progress in most lessons.

“Pupils are well behaved and support each other to learn. They are polite, and enthusiastic about their school.”

“The pupils know about bullying. They say that there is very little bullying or poor behaviour in the school and, where it occurs, adults deal with it quickly.

“Most parents feel that their children are safe, happy and secure in the school. Pupils agree that they feel safe.”

Head teacher Geraldine Denham-Hale praised all staff and students for their “outstanding” work for the school.

She said: “The Ofsted report is a credit to our team of staff, governors, parents, volunteers and pupils and I am extremely proud and grateful to everyone who has made this achievement possible.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the dedication and commitment that they show to our school and our children that make St Mary’s such a special place to work and to learn.

“The inspectors certainly recognised the ambition and drive for high standards throughout the whole school community and we are now at the start of our journey towards even greater achievements in the future.”
