RECORDS were smashed today as Plume Academy celebrated a spectacular set of GCSE results.

Students across the county flocked to the school on Fambridge Road to pick up their results, with records shattered across the board.

An incredible 27 students in Year 11 secured eight or more A*/A grades, double the number achieved last year, with eight of those students achieving eight or more A*s.

63 per cent of students achieved an A*-C in both English and Maths, with a significant increase in the Progress 8 and Attainment 8 outcomes, which meant the academy achieved significantly above the national average.

There was a four per cent increase in students achieving an English Baccalaureate, an eight per cent increase in the number of students achieving five A*-C grades including English, and a rise of 12 per cent of the year group achieving A*-G grades to 96 per cent.

The highest performing GCSE courses were RE with 42 students secured A* grades, Computing with 100% of students achieving an A*-C grade and Biology, Chemistry and Physics which all saw over 90% of students entered achieving an A*-C grade.

Students who achieved eight or more A*/A grades included Poppy Brown, Lucy Clarke, Erica Cook, Freya Cox, Luke Crawford, James Crook, Jasmine Emson, Beth Gaskin and James Harris.

Plume Principal Carl Wakefield said: “I cannot begin to explain how proud I am of our Year 11 cohort for achieving these record breaking results. Not only did they equal or better all previous outcomes but in some cases, they did so by a significant margin.

“Results like these do not simply happen without a massive amount of commitment and dedication and the students, and of course our excellent team of staff, have worked exceptionally hard over the past two years to secure these.”

He added: “The staff and students alike should feel exceptionally proud of these results. The same should also be felt by our tremendously supportive Parents and Carers who themselves have worked in collaboration with the Academy thus ensuring their children can now progress on to the next stage of their education, employment or training.”
