A TEENAGER has described how intimidated he was when three men allegedly robbed him and four pals in Burnham.

Stefan Evans and Kieran Gilkes deny robbing four mobile phones and one wallet from five teens near Glendale Road, Burnham, in November 2014.

Chelmsford Crown Court heard on Tuesday how the prosecution alleged Evans, Gilkes and a third man, who has already admitted robbery offences, approached the alleged victims as they stood near the Iron Bridge in Burnham.

Jordan Pitt, who was 17 at the time of the incident, admitted to feeling scared at the time of the robbery. He said: “I was a bit shook up. I was scared at that point.

“If you have got a man rummaging through your pockets then you’re going to be scared.

“It was intimidating at the time. He said: ‘where is your stuff?’ That isn’t exact but it was along those lines.”

Michael Edmonds, defending Gilkes, claimed the two defendants were trying to prevent the robberies.

He claimed to Mr Pitt: “It was no doubt a very worrying and scary experience for you that evening.

“One of them starts losing it, going off on one so to speak.

“Mr Gilkes was there. You may have formed a view that he was a bit drunk but he did not touch you and did not take anything off of you. The two defendants were trying to stop this from happening.”

Another alleged victim, who is now 17, told the court: “They stole it. One of them stole it, I don’t know which one.

“He put his hand in my pocket and too it out. I said: ‘What’s the point of taking that it’s not worth anything’ and he said ‘it’s mine now’.”

Mr Edmonds claimed this man could not be identified. Guy Fitzmaurice, defending Evans, echoed his sentiments.

He said: “I suggest that it was the other person who robbed you.”

Evans, 27, of Leigh and Gilkes, 31, of Canterbury, both deny five counts of robbery.

The trial continues.
