THE CHILDREN of Wentworth Primary School held a surprise flash mob for a departing head teacher.

Mrs Jan Myers is retiring from her role as head teacher of the school at the end of this term after 15 years in the role.

Staff and children at the school danced for Mrs Myers to give her a spectacular send off.

The flash mob took place at the end of Mrs Myers’ last ever break duty, as over 400 children danced to ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams.

The much loved head teacher was shocked by the dance but enjoyed it immensely.

Mrs Myers said: “I was on playground duty and at the end of break when I told them to line up they didn’t listen, they went off to different places around the yard.

“I asked one what was going on and they ignored me. I think the teachers had told them to if I asked what was happening.

“All the younger children came out and we had about 420 children outside. I was thinking there had been a fire alarm and I’d just not heard it.

“Then, all of a sudden, one of the teachers whipped out a speaker and the children started dancing.

“This was the best retirement gift I could have asked for. I absolutely loved it.”

The head teacher leaves the school after 15 years, and she feels now is the right time to go.

She said: “I’m retiring while I still enjoy the job which I think I’m quite fortunate for.

“The children are the best part about the school and the team we have at the moment are the best team we have had in my time here.

“I know the school is going to be fine and I’m happy to say I’m leaving it in very good shape.”
