VILLAGERS want more information on bus services which were saved from the axe by a council.

Last week Essex County Council agreed to support the running of the 91, 92 and 95 services from Tollesbury.

The services which ran to Maldon, Colchester and Witham were to be cut by Hedingham Buses.

Campaigners and Witham MP Priti Patel, whose constituency includes Tollesbury and Tiptree, have welcomed the news but called for information on which routes will be supported.

Ms Patel said: “Residents were deeply shocked and anxious as losing these services would have left many isolated and cut off.

“Having lobbied Essex County Council extensively, I am pleased that they have listened to local concerns and responded. We now need to know from Essex County Council what services on these routes will be provided and if there will be any changes made.

“Residents feel strongly that they want services maintained and preserved and it is important that the Council gives details of the new arrangements as soon as possible.”

Goldhanger resident, Carol Piersy, 70, added: “At first I was very happy at the news that ECC would be taking over, but then I thought that they have had the funds for a while, so I’m not sure what they have been doing.

"I don’t think we should all jump up and blow our trumpets just yet, we need to make sure the council provide us with their plan so we know for sure what will happen when Hedingham cease to operate at the end of the month.”
