ENTREPRENEURS from Maldon are aiming to make life a little easier with their unusual new hamper-themed business.

Friends Nigel Richardson and Paul Barmby have launched Secret Hamper.

The business idea is based around hamper gifts but will be packed full of essentials rather than luxury goods.

People will be able to buy hampers for students heading off to university, elderly neighbours and even new mums.

The hampers can be filled with items including sweet treats, handy toiletries, baby nappies and easy to prepare meals.

Nigel, who lives in Tolleshunt Major, said: “We were on holiday together one summer with both of our families when the topic of conversation turned to how expensive it is to have a new baby.

“New parents are often overwhelmed with gifts, yet frequently they aren’t given essential and basic items.

“This became our light bulb moment as we realised that there was a gap in the market for this kind of gift.”

Nigel and Paul, from Maldon, launched the scheme last week setting off from Farleigh Hospice in Chelmsford to deliver hampers to those in need.

Nigel added: “Our hampers are the perfect way to provide a helping hand. "Receiving gifts of simple, day-to-day essentials could make a massive change to someone’s life and we aim to create an all-round feel good factor, both for the sender, but most importantly for the recipient – knowing that someone somewhere is thinking of them.”
