A CONCERT showcasing songs of royal roots will be held in Maldon this weekend.

Maldon Choral Society have been going through their final rehearsals for their concert ‘Tea with Royalty’ which will feature songs and music with a royal connection this Sunday.

Taking place at the West Maldon Community Centre on Sunbury Way, the music shall feature a wide range of various genres of music, from nursery rhymes, medleys and modern arrangements.

Pieces will include Handel’s ‘Zadok the Priest’, the nursery rhyme Sing a Song of Sexpence, a medley featured in the production of ‘The King and I’, a modern arrangement of The Skye Boat Song, as well as some well-loved folk songs and piano items.

The concert will see Gillian Ward Russell conducting the choir, with Ashley Thompson accompanying.

Following the concert, which starts at 3pm, there will be a light afternoon tea for all guests in attendance, with many cakes baked by the choir members themselves, who are proud of their excellent cooking skills and hope to bring the most delicious cakes to the table.
