A charity masquerade ball is being held at the Three Rivers Golf and Country Club, Cold Norton, on June 18.
The event is being organised by Nicola Spearman, 31, a teacher from South Witham, in aid of the Macular Society.
The Macular Society is a national charity for anyone affected by central vision loss and macular conditions.
Nicola was diagnosed with Stargardt disease, a form of macular dystrophy, last January and was grateful for the support she received from the charity.
“That is the main reason behind this, I wanted to give something back.
“There is no cure to this and it will eventually lead to me losing my central vision.
“I was told about the Macular Society and received some great support and counselling from them which was very useful.
“They got me through some very difficult times.”
The Macular Society are currently working on research into cures for conditions, and that is another motivation for Nicola.
“Part of my motivation for raising more money is that there have been real successes in research into treatments for some macular conditions.
“Therefore I want to raise money so that The Macular Society can continue to contribute towards research into conditions so that hopefully one day there may be a cure or treatment for mine.”
Nicola is hoping to raise around £5000 for the charity through the masquerade ball, after fundraising for them in the past.
“I did a 10k run last year for The Macular Society and was really pleased with the money we raised.
“We raised over £2,500 and I thought my next mission was to not only raise money but also awareness, and I think a ball is a great way to do that.
“The hope is it goes well, we get lots of people turning out and are able to turn this into an annual event.”
As well as organising the ball, Nicola, along with her husband and 15 others, is also completing the Vitality British 10K Run in aid of the charity.
