THOUSANDS of pounds raised in an annual sponsored event in Maldon have been handed over to an RNLI unit.
The Maldon Little Ship Club handed over a cheque for £11,478 raised by the Row and Gig race to West Mersea RNLI.
John Rogers, organiser of the event which was held just after Christmas, thanked the many sponsors including the Basin Oars ladies team who raised £3600 towards the total.
Another cheque of £2,700 was presented by David Harris to Richard Titchener of Sea Change to be specifically used for a residential Thames Barge Sailing trip for Plume School Year 9 students.
The money was raised by Maldon Little Ship Club members.
New commodore Sue Woods also handed out certificates from the Royal Yacht Association to successful students.
