A BID to build a new housing estate and village hall in Latchingdon has been resubmitted.

Developer Latchingdon South applied to build 41 homes on land north of the village’s Jacks Bowls Club in Burnham Road last year.

The plans were rejected in November but now the developer has decided to resubmit the scheme which would include 16 affordable homes.

As part of the hybrid application, outline permission is being sought for a new village hall and associated infrastructure.

The proposed homes would be a mix of two, three and four bedroom properties.

The application said: “Latchingdon South has the clear potential to deliver a high quality scheme for Latchingdon and the application has been designed to mitigate any “adverse impacts” of the development.

“By identifying the significant benefits the development of the site can provide, it can make a notable contribution to the economic, social and environmental sustainability of the village.”

The plans include half an acre of amenity space and Latchingdon South say they have been designed to “meet the needs” of the area.

It claims 81 per cent of residents who attended the Latchingdon South Exhibition before the submission of the 2015 planning application were fully in support of the scheme.

The original scheme was rejected by Maldon District Council’s south eastern area planning committee despite officers recommending it for approval.

Maldon District Council is expected to decide on the plans by July.
