A SEA cadet from Maldon has been presented with a Jack Petchey award.

Ben East, 15, picked up his awarded at a ceremony in London on Sunday.

The event honoured 90 sea cadets aged between 11 and 25 who all received medallions, a framed certificate and £200.

Ben has chosen to spend his £200 award on maps, compasses and map cases for training the cadets which will be used for Duke of Edinburgh expeditions.

He was recognised for his work with younger cadets, his fundraising and his participation in cadet activities.

Ben transferred to the Royal Marine Cadets when the detachment was opened last year.

Lt Cdr Cliff Lewis said: “The day was a celebration of some of the most inspiring young people and adults in our organisation.

“It was, above all, tremendous fun for everyone involved be they award winners, performers, family, friends or VIP guests.

“We are so very grateful that the Foundation includes the Sea Cadets in its support for young people and their adult leaders.”
