Pupils flew round an obstacle course to raise money for their school resources and celebrate their new gym equipment.

Children at St Mary’s Primary School, in Marsh Road, Burnham, broke in the new apparatus by taking part in a sponsored obstacle course last Wednesday.

The Parent Teacher Association (Paddlers) at the school raised the money for the equipment, which includes a climbing frame and wall bars, topped up by PE Premium money allocated to each school as part of the 2012 Olympic legacy.

PE co-ordinator Elizabeth Brown said: “Everybody had lots and lots of fun, the children absolutely loved it and the Paddlers who helped where absolutely brilliant.

“There was a buzz in the hall, it was very good.

“It’s about each individual being responsible for their fitness, we want them to love being fit.”

Funds raised by the event are yet to be counted, but Mrs Brown is hopeful a reasonable amount was raised.

The money will go towards new reading books for the pupils.

Mrs Brown said: “We really need to broaden our range of reading books.

“Paddlers had already contributed to the PE equipment, so we wanted to give something back.”

Continuing its sporting success, the school has been awarded the Sainsbury’s Bronze Award for recognising and celebrating the PE involvement of the children in lessons and school competitions, including sports day.
