A FUNDRAISER has completed an 87km trek in aid of the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance.

Janice Flower, of Tolleshunt Knights, joined 26 other people when she flew out to Cambodia last month.

The team have now returned home having raised £52,500 for the air ambulance trust.

The challenge saw trekkers walk the distance over five days in scorching temperatures of 40c.

Their final trekking day saw them visit ancient temples and ruins, including the spectacular walled city of Angkor Wat and the famous Bayon, adorned with wall carvings and mysterious giant faces.

Janice, who is Lottery Manager at EHAAT, said: “The trek was fantastic.

“Cambodia is a beautiful country and the people are so friendly.

“This was an opportunity to see how some of the rural Cambodian communities live – quite remote with very basic living standards, purely trying to earn a living to keep their families fed.

“The trekking group gelled together really well and supported each other through a few challenging times. The biggest challenge was the weather conditions with the heat between 35 and 40 degrees.

“I had an incredible adventure – one which I will never forget, but that’s what you get and memories you bring back from the treks you take part in.”

The Fundraising Team at Essex & Herts Air Ambulance are looking for supporters to embark on the charity’s next challenge in September 2016, trekking the Slovenian Alps.
